Bayfair Shopping Centre: Creating sustainable spaces

Sustainability and accessibility is at the heart of everything at Bayfair Shopping Centre.

Bayfair has been setting industry-leading trends in sustainability over the past decade, and reaping results for both the environment and the centres bottom line.

Now offering a boost to shoppers’ wallets, the mobility scooter charging stations will charge a scooter in approximately one hour. This free to use system will entice shoppers with accessible needs to pick up one of the centre’s mobility scooters while theirs is being charged for the home bound journey. The electric vehicle charging stations have two charging speeds,

the fast free-for-public-use charger will fully charge a flat vehicle in six hours and a user-pays rapid charger will complete a full charge in the time it takes to buy and drink a cup of coffee.

The charging station initiative received funding support from the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Environmental Enhancement Fund. Charge Net NZ and Powerco funded the fast charger installation. AMP Capital owns 42 per cent of Powerco through its Infrastructure Equity business.
