On Tuesday 30th May 150 of the Australian fashion industry’s most notable names descended on Circular Quay for AMP Capital’s and the Australian Fashion Chamber’s (AFC) annual party.

The event, hosted by Edwina McCann, Chair of the Australian Fashion Chamber & Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Australia, was held atop the heritage-listed AMP Building. The event was in celebration of the AFC’s third anniversary and treated guests to uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour and the magical Vivid Festival light show.

Australia’s most fashionable export, famed costume designer and stylist Catherine Baba, flew in direct from the Cannes Film Festival to attend the event. The Paris-based icon of the fashion industry told the crowd that she still calls Australia home, and is passionate about the burgeoning fashion industry down under. Baba mentioned that she is “ultra-excited” to be a supporter of the AFC, and entertained guests with her colourful yet informative insights into the fashion industry and the Australian designers that are gracing the world stage.

The star-studded guest list included models of the moment Annabella Barber, Astrid Holler and Rosie Tupper, fashion designers Alice McCall, Bianca Spender, Lillian Khallouf, Luke Sales, Margi Woods, Mikey Nolan, Pip Edwards and Tony Jones, and notable fashion stylist Romy Frydman.

This evening is in celebration of the AFC’s third anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than with fashion eminence Catherine Baba. Our goal is to strengthen, promote and develop Australian fashion design by nurturing talent, originality and success locally and internationally. With the help of sponsors, such as AMP Capital, we can execute this through programs such as Designers Abroad, which will this year for the first time take Australian talent to show at New York Fashion Week in addition to Paris. We are very much looking forward to what the next years holds for the industry.
Miriam Gilroy, General Manager of the Australian Fashion Chamber

AMP Capital is the major sponsor of the Australian Fashion Chamber, and recently completed a $670 million redevelopment of Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, transforming the centre into largest fashion destination in Queensland with a mix of AFC designers such as Camilla, Carla Zampatti, Dion Lee, Scanlan Theodore, Alice McCall, and Zimmermann, Aje, Morrison, Bul, Alpha 60 and Manning Cartell, and in 2014 completed a $440 million development of Macquarie Centre in Sydney’s north.

In addition, AMP Capital is progressing with plans to redevelop Perth fashion destinations Garden City Shopping Centre and Karrinyup Shopping Centre, which are due to commence in 2018.
